Fiat Panda 4x40°: A limited edition hybrid SUV that honors its legacy

The Fiat Panda 4x4 is one of the most iconic and versatile cars in the history of the Italian brand. Since its debut in 1983, it has been a pioneer of the compact SUV segment, combining a small size with a capable all-wheel drive system. Over the years, it has evolved and adapted to different needs and tastes but has always maintained its distinctive character and appeal.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Fiat Panda 4x4, Fiat has launched a new limited edition model called the Fiat Panda 4x40°. The name is a tribute to the original Panda 4x4's ability to tackle slopes up to 40 degrees and a reference to the number of units that will be produced: only 400 examples will be available for the European market.

The Fiat Panda 4x40° is based on the Panda City Cross, which is the entry-level version of the Panda Cross, the most rugged and off-road oriented variant of the Panda family. The Panda City Cross features a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with a 12-volt belt-integrated starter generator (BISG) and a lithium-ion battery. The system delivers 70 horsepower and 92 Nm of torque and can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 30% compared to the previous 1.2-liter engine.

The Panda 4x40° adds some exclusive elements to the Panda City Cross, such as:

  • A matte green exterior color with black roof rails, mirror caps, door handles, and skid plates.
  • A 40th-anniversary logo on the front fenders and on the tailgate.
  • A bronze finish for the 15-inch alloy wheels and the front grille inserts.
  • A black fabric interior with green stitching and eco-leather details on the seats, steering wheel, and gear knob.
  • A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, DAB radio, Bluetooth, USB port, and six speakers.
  • A climate control system, rear parking sensors, cruise control, hill holder, and tire pressure monitoring system.

The Fiat Panda 4x40° also comes with the Panda Traction Plus system, which is an electronic differential lock that can improve traction on slippery or uneven surfaces by braking the wheel that loses grip and transferring torque to the other wheel. This feature enhances the off-road performance of the Panda 4x4 without adding weight or complexity.

The Fiat Panda 4x40° is priced at €17,900 ($20,300) in Italy, which is €1,500 ($1,700) more than the Panda City Cross. It is available for order now and will be delivered starting in November. Fiat says that each customer will receive a welcome kit that includes a numbered plaque, a key ring, a certificate of authenticity, and a book that tells the story of the Panda 4x4.

The Fiat Panda 4x40° is a fitting tribute to a car that millions of drivers have loved for four decades. It combines the charm and personality of the original Panda 4x4 with the modernity and efficiency of hybrid technology. It is also a rare and collectible model that will appeal to fans and enthusiasts of the Fiat brand.

If you are looking for a small SUV that can handle any terrain with style and flair, you might want to check out the Panda 4x40° before it sells out. It is a car that celebrates its past while looking forward to its future.
