The Citroen 2CV, or "duck," returns to production 75 years after its initial release. The classic cult vehicle is now available as a model automobile with many accurate characteristics thanks to a collaboration between Citroen and Playmobil, whose vital toys have accompanied families for almost 50 years.
The Playmobil replica of the renowned Citroen 2CV debuting at the Rétromobile in Paris and the Toy Fair in Nuremberg features an innovative technical sheet. Powered solely by human strength, at just 284 mm in length and 302 g in weight, the Playmobil 2CV whisks kids and adults alike to the fantastic realms of their imaginations or childhoods.
The Citroen 2CV is an iconic symbol of a vibrant era, as it was built to be equally at home on the farm as it was in the city. The Playmobil 2CV's bright blue paint job and abundance of extras capture this upbeat vibe. Thus, many figures join the duck in a large box, including a farmer carrying two milk jugs and his geese and pig, symbolizing country life, and a driver dressed in a striped sailor's outfit. Finally, a policeman reminiscent of the legendary gendarme remembered from classic French films. The interior of the model car is faithful to the original, and there are other beautiful details like an opening tailgate, the car's signature headlamps, and a hood that can be removed. There is an option to change the headlights from clear to yellow. For personalized duck embellishment, there is a label sheet with four distinct country codes and several bright sticker styles.
The playset has many nice extras, including a model Citroen 2CV automobile, three Playmobil characters, a pig, two geese, two milk cans, and a set of lights. A wonderful present for vintage automobile buffs.
With the 2CV, Citroen and Playmobil have created a one-of-a-kind French automobile design that has become a cult classic and is perfect for pretend play, collecting, and displaying. Playmobil is currently accepting pre-orders for the model for €49.99 [RRP incl. VAT], with shipments beginning on February 24, 2023.
1948: The birth of the iconic Citroen 2CV
The Citroen 2CV's unique appearance, high-tech build, adaptability, and fuel efficiency stunned visitors to the 1948 Paris Motor Show. Features like front-wheel drive, soft suspension, and an air-cooled two-cylinder engine were cutting-edge innovations that won over buyers. The overwhelming response from customers validated the designers' assumptions, and the duck became a cultural staple and legendary symbol of the automobile industry.
At a time when cars were still considered a luxury good, the Citroen 2CV was built with the average consumer in mind. This was not a downsized version of a midsize car but a cheaply made vehicle with some interesting new features. More than 5.1 million cars (including panel vans) were sold by 1990, attesting to the success of the duck's innovative design. For its 42 years on the market, the Citroen 2CV has won over every demographic. Due to its extensive past and lengthy life, the duck has earned the status of a living legend. @via Playmobil.
