The Volvo EX90 comes with Google's new HD Maps. A map technology that gives detailed and up-to-date information about traffic. The new Volvo EX90 has lidar, cameras, and radars that work together to determine what's going on around the car and make it safer. For driver support technology to get better and get us closer to self-driving cars, we also need technology that can recognize the surroundings right in front of the car and further away.
So, Volvo Cars now come with Google's new HD Maps and its strategic partner Polestar. Google's HD Maps is a detailed map service for cars that gives drivers a lot of traffic information. The technology will only come to the latest launches, the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3.
Javier Varela, COO and Deputy CEO, said, "The addition of Google HD Maps to our future automotive portfolio expands our strategic partnership with Google and shows our commitment to working with leading technology companies." "Putting Google HD Maps in our future cars will help us give our customers a better driving experience and will help bring safe autonomous driving to the market in the future."
"The new Google HD Maps add to our long history of making maps of the world. It was made for automakers and gave them all the location information they need for the next generation of assisted and autonomous driving systems," Google's Vice President of Geo Automotive, Jorgen Behrens, said. "We're happy to keep working with top automakers like Volvo Cars to make driving safer and more comfortable for people worldwide."
Along with data from the Volvo EX90's lidar and other sensors, this information about the road will be processed by the car's core computing system, which is powered by NVIDIA DRIVE's AI platforms, Xavier and Orin.
Volvo Cars wants to make driving more predictable, safe, and comfortable by combining data from HD Maps with information from the car's outside sensors, lidar from Luminar, and software from Zenseact.
"Zenseact is proud to be working with Volvo Cars and Google to put this ground-breaking technology for assisted and, in the future, fully autonomous driving into use. This will be a big step toward our goal of having no accidents ", says Zenseact CEO Odgard Andersson.
In the future, Google HD Maps will also work with Volvo's self-driving technology and lidar, radar systems, cameras, and ultrasound detectors to help the car understand its surroundings better.
